This is something that I think warrants some explanation, because it can be very confusing. Every class has skills, for weapons, armor, shields, bows, spells of various types, and many other special abilities. What skills you have depends on your class and level. Basic skills increase as you increase in level, and don't require you to spend any specialization points, or "spec" points, to improve in them. As an example, all the spell lines have a Basic line and a Spec line. The Basic line gives you new spells as you go up in character level, you can't get them any faster or slower. The Spec line gives you spells depending on your specialization level in that skill. The more you put in, the better you are at it. Most weapon skills work like this, as well as many casting skills. Areas where this causes confusion are with things like Bows. Many classes get the ability to use bows, but not the ability to specialize in them. You'll see Shortbow (or something similar) in your Skills list, but when you go to train, it's not there. This also applies to some non-melee classes with their weapons, and for various other things. |
